Students got benefit almost everywhere and infosec domain is not exception to that as well . I have added some of most beneficial perk you get as a student in infosec domain below.

  1. Shodan : If you have been interested in cyber security then you must have heard of Shodan, The search engine made for hackers. It’s pretty amazing that they offer free membership to students. All you need to need to do is sign up with college mail id and you are good to go.

It’s very helpful as you can search for target organization with a single query and download the results with specific port open or service running on targeted organization. Also you can use vulnerability filter to know what vulnerabilities have been discovered by Shodan on your target.

Note : In some cases you might be required to mail at academic@shodan.io to avail benefits as your college domain might not be in their university domain list.

2. Notion : We all know documentation is equally important in security & I have realized it recently. Personally i feel Notion is best documentation tool out there with easy customization & they offer free pro membership to students so what else you want.

After completed their exercise you feel like you have actually learned something meaningful . Moreover they offer many free exercises as well those are gem and underrated don’t know why.

Let’s get back to point what they offer to students they offer 3 months of membership at 35$ which is nothing. if you look at what they have to offer you in return.

5. HackTheBox-Academy : Hackthebox Academy is a very good alternative to tryhackme. They are relatively new than tryhackme & offer quite expensive membership as compared to tryhackme for non-students account .

I have done free rooms on tryhackme and free modules of Hackthebox Academy as well and if i had to choose between tryhackme and hackthebox academy, I will go with hackthebox academy.

I will prefer hackthebox academy, Because i feel they offer more organized content with better concepts explanation & modules use examples which are more useful in real world scenario.
